“Pushhhh! Madam, pushhh!” The nurse shouted. “Nurse, I’m pushing! I’m pushing!!” The pain was unbearable. As I continued to push, I looked at my husband who was sweating profusely beside me. “Ade!! Adeoluwa Ebenezer Badmus!! Ah. See what you have done to me!” He looked apologetic. “I’m sorry my dear. This will be our first and last child. I promise you! I can’t imagine seeing you go through this sort of pain again. Lai lai!”

“Madam, please stop the discussion and focus on the baby. Oya, pushhhh.” As I beat and scratched my husband, I shouted, “I am pushing! Iya yi, mo n push se. Ah! Ade. See my life oo. Look what you’ve done to me!”

That was October 16, 2014. The day I gave birth to Ayomikun. After her, and contrary to my husband’s promise, we had Segun in 2016 and Genesis in 2017 🙂 But that is not the point of this story.

Last month, my younger sister called me and informed me that she was nearing her EDD (Expected Date of Delivery). It was her first pregnancy and she was so scared. Hehe. My brothers and sisters, that’s how I put on my counselor coat o.

“Adebimpe mi. Don’t be afraid at all. There is nothing to be scared of. Just relax, take things calmly and follow the doctor’s instructions.” My husband laughed!!! “Ooose. Counselor of laive. Dr. Phil. Is that how you did your own? You forgot how you were shouting my name all over the labour room abi? How you made me promise that we will stop at one?”

Bimpe heard him and laughed. “You better stop laughing and listen to experienced counsel. Whose report do you want to believe? My husband here or me that I’ve been to the labour room thrice.” After all the jokes, I walked her through the process and addressed her concerns. I told her she was right to be afraid and anxious. I let her know she needed to continue to walk and exercise as the day drew nearer in order to aid the process. I shared some other helpful tips. Then, we prayed and I assured her that she would be fine.

Last week, on the 10th of October 2018, Bimpe gave birth to a bouncing baby girl. Aduragbemi Divine-Revelation Favour Adejuwon. She called and said she was grateful for my advice which helped her through the difficult process of delivery. “Oluwaseun” was my reply. I was just grateful to God for the privilege to be of help in my little way.

Story iyaff finish!

Ire: One of my favorite passages, 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 reads “All praise to the God and Father of our Master, Jesus the Messiah! Father of all mercy! God of all healing counsel! He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us.”

As we journey through life, we will face difficult situations. During these periods, the weight seems quite heavy and we wonder if we can scale through. But more often than not, by God’s grace, we find a solution.

The challenge to us is to find a way to be of help to others who are going through hard times. Especially those hard times we have been through ourselves. Let her know that a breakup is not the end of the world. Tell him that you also had a difficult time seeking to make ends meet. Show him your throwback pictures and let him know that you were not born this way. Tell that new mother that you also struggled with postpartum depression.

You have received help. Don’t hesitate to extend a helping hand.
