Episode 3: DM

Love is a beautiful thing. Several times I have seen friends and colleagues claim to fall in love. I had laughed at them, I had teased them. Little did I know I was next to be hit by this storm – the love storm. My name is Victor and I might have lost love.

The journey home was smooth. Everyone was in their protective gears, moving gently and trying as much as possible to avoid contact with each other. I don’t think I have seen people been so conscious. Since it took a pandemic for many people to respect traits like queuing at the ATM and bus parks, I wondered what it would take for people to accept Jesus.

Home was homely, of course. I had time to be with my lovely family; we cooked, we played, we sang. It was basically a happy time been home.

It has been a week since I got home, I’m still hurt by the lost opportunity. I had thought of sending a direct message to her, but I’m very shy and I strongly believe in talking to someone face to face. But as days kept passing by, I was already giving up. Loving from afar is really hurtful. I just needed an opportunity for us to talk.

The walls must indeed have ears, and as I silently wished for an opportunity, it was said that there would be an online teaching later that night. I planned on attending and learning more of the scriptures.

By 8pm, the teaching started, the fellowship bible study teacher spoke on “Effective Living”. He spoke extensively on making impact and adding value. In his words, “You can’t be valued, if you don’t have value; if your life is not a blessing to anyone, you’re an accident about to happen; one way to make your name out live you is by investing in people”. It was a powerful session.

When it was time for contributions, my Gift kept giving some deep revelations. Each message she dropped was increasing my love for her. I, been a smart person, kept adding “fire emojis and kai” to her messages; I also contributed in the discussion. If you are wondering how I knew she was the one, of course I had saved her number.

The teaching came to an end, but my love for her didn’t. Now there was a battle in my mind: “Send her a DM. Don’t send it. Send it. Don’t…yes….no…yes…nooo…” “Enough!” I shouted. I summoned all the courage one could think of and boom:

Victor: Hello, good evening.

The speed, at which my heart ran, was like one about to be caught for malpractice during exams.

My Gift is typing, was the most tensed sight I had ever seen. What was she typing? Would she be angry, hope this is not a mistake? Different thoughts hit me from left to right, and when I could hold it no longer I switched off my data. Local man cannot come and die of heart attack.

“What is the worst thing that could happen?” I thought within myself. I switched back on my data, and the message blew my mind away. The message read:

My Gift: Victor!!!!!!!!

What just happened?! She knows me, she knows me ooooo! I was in glory realm; a smile was all over my face, and the peace that surpasses all understanding was what I experienced. The joy in my heart knew no bounds. Just a word from her meant the world to me.

With joy in my heart and hope restored, I said to myself: “My dear Gift, welcome to my world”
