TEXT: GENESIS 2:2
Genesis 2:2- And on the seventh day, God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done
In the story of Creation, God worked for six days and then He rested on the seventh. This tells us clearly that WORK PRECEDES REST. That is the correct order and the perfect example that God laid down for us from the beginning of time. Do not be deceived by anyone for any reason that rest can take place before work. After work, then rest becomes
- Meaningful
- Sweet
- Rewarding
Anyone who rests before attempting to do any work is violating this principle of work and such individual will hardly make out anything meaningful in life. Such individuals are called LAZY. Therefore if you are reading this right now, evaluate yourself on the scale of the word. Do you love rest all the time? Note that individuals who love rest before work don’t usually work because they love to remain in that restful state except there is an external force that pushes them to work. Such individuals will find any silly excuse to give just to prevent them from doing something meaningful with their time. Also, such individuals are very selfish because all they seek is their comfort all the time which is against God’s command for us. Jesus said the Ten Commandments are summarized into two.
- The first is to love God with all your heart, mind, body and soul
- The second which is like it is to love your neighbor as yourself
In the above two commandments, they have an action word which is common to them- LOVE. Have you seen a love that is not sacrificial before and I will tell you it is not love but something else. Love always put others first and by so doing it is not selfish because it will prompt an individual to arise and do that which is needful as opposed to what is seen in the life of a lazy person.
