No guilt in life, No fear in death,

This is the power of Christ in me,

From life’s first breath to final cry,

Jesus commands my destiny.

No power of hell, no scheme of man

Can ever pluck me from His hand

Till He returns or calls me home

Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand.

Sola wept as her mother held her close. Day was breaking, but the tears continued to flow. Sola was broken. It was as though the pain and guilt of the past few weeks had become a physical burden that crushed her.

Adenike looked at her daughter and wondered what terrible thing she must have dreamt about. Her scream must have woken a few of their neighbours. That was not her priority though, she just wanted to know what happened to her daughter.

“If I tell my mother, how would she feel? After all the sacrifices she made. Despite her teachings on the importance of purity and honouring God. Her daughter got engaged in immorality.” Sola looked at her mother and wondered if she should open up to her. Then the words she heard in her dream came back to her mind: “I know I can still make something of this vessel. I know I will still make something great of this vessel. I will still make something great of your life, Sola.” Encouraged by the assurance of a bright future, she spoke up.

“Mum. I am sorry. I am responsible for Dad’s death”

For the next 20 minutes, Sola told her Mum everything, starting with the experiences with Jane, after which she continued by talking about the guilt she felt when her father died.

As she spoke, she glanced at her mother’s face, searching for signs. But there was nothing.

Concluding her story, Sola spoke about the dream she had. She recounted the words she could remember and spoke about the blinding light she saw when the Potter turned towards her.

Adenike smiled. God had answered her prayers.

Sola: Mummy, why are you smiling?

Adenike: Because God answered my prayers. You see, my daughter, although I was not sure what the problem was, I knew that something was wrong. For the past three days, I have been fasting and praying, asking God to intervene. There is so much joy in my heart.

S: Are you not angry with me?

A: Why should I be?

S: I caused Dad’s death.

Adenike smiled wryly.

A: My dear daughter, no you didn’t. Don’t allow the devil hold you down with that lie. Am I happy with what happened? No! I am not, and we will have time to talk about it. But do I believe that your actions were the cause of your father’s death? No. Don’t let the devil hold you down. Confess your sins to God and He will forgive you. Also, quite importantly, forgive yourself.

It was the final WAEC GCE examinations. After the excitement of completing the exams, Sola went to Jane’s place.

As she took the drink that Jane gave her, Sola shared her supernatural encounter with her friend. She was excited, but her friend seemed unhappy.

Sola: Jane, what happened? You don’t look happy.

Jane: I feel like you won’t have time for me again. I love you, Sola. I want to be with you again.

Suddenly, Sola felt light and the room began to spin. Jane laughed. The substance she put in the drink was working. This would be the end of the show. There was no need for further delay.

Adenike felt uneasy. She had a nudge to drive over to Jane’s place.

Greeting the security man, Adenike made her went towards the apartment. As her knocks went unanswered, Adenike tried to open the door. It opened.

She screamedddd! What she saw shocked her. Jane held a knife and was about to stab Sola. Adenike lunged and reached for the knife.

Two days later, Sola sat and wrote in her diary.

“Dear Diary,

For the first time since Daddy died, I have hope for tomorrow. I know that God has a plan for me. The dream made it clear, and then what happened at Jane’s place drove the point home even more.

Sister Anu called me from school. She shared the dream she had the same night I met the Potter. It made me feel so loved. I am so assured that the Lord of the whole universe is mindful of me.

I no longer feel guilty or responsible for Daddy’s death. Also, now I know my identity in Christ. I am blood-bought, spirit-filled and Heaven-bound. I am seated with Christ in heavenly places, far above principalities and powers. I am loved by God, forgiven and free. I am no longer a slave to sin or evil desires. I am redeemed! I am free!

The End.

Iremide: Are you reading this, and you are struggling with guilt brought about by things you did? Do you think that God cannot forgive you? The Bible teaches us in 1 John 2:1 that we have Christ as our advocate with the Father. There is no sin too strong for the blood of Jesus to cleanse. No matter what happened in the past, Christ is offering you a new beginning. A greater beginning!

Are you reading this, and you are yet to give your life to Christ? This moment, you have the opportunity to do so. Romans 10:9 says “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved”

Please say this prayer: “Heavenly Father, I believe that Jesus is Lord. I believe that He came to died for my sins, and rose again. I confess that my sins. I accept Christ as my Lord and Saviour. Help me to walk according to your word. Teach me, lead me and guide me. For in Jesus name, I pray. Amen!”
