“Nothing happened! Stop spreading fake news. The lion did not kill any animal. The young deer and its friends are telling these baseless allegations in a bid to dethrone the king of the jungle.”
The hyena continued, “We will not allow any animal, young or old, to disrupt the peace and prosperity that we are enjoying. Young deer, gazelle, elephant and their friends must be held accountable for their actions in the failed coup.”
The young deer could not continue to suffer in silence. It had believed that the town hall meeting was a step towards reconciliation; however, it was clear the lion and its cohorts did not have the same intention.
“That is not true! Elder Hyena is lying. It was a peaceful protest. Our intention was to stop the ruthless killings by the lion. We are tired of being treated unjustly in our land. None of us has any aspiration to overthrow the lion”
The giraffe, who was presiding over the meeting, stood up. “Young deer, this is not a marketplace. You must wait for your turn to speak. After all, no one knows the source of funds for the so-called “protests”. Keep quiet until you are told to speak.”
Hyena smiled. It knew the young animals had a justified cause. It remembered its youthful days when it was forced exile in order to escape from gorilla who was the leader of the jungle. However, things had changed. Hyena had suffered to get to the top echelons of power and there was no way it would relinquish its power.
…
Eight years later, hyena’s son arrived from the land of the white sands. It came to visit its father and finalize preparations for its wedding to a young wolf. As part of the activities, young hyena and its soon-to-be bride went to the stream for the ceremonial cleansing.
As the cleansing was about to commence, the wild hippopotamus emerged from the stream and charged at young hyena! Hyena screamed for help, but none came. In a few seconds, the deed was done. Young hyena was dead.
…
The monsters you make will destroy the monuments you build.
Those who support injustice because of their affiliations or aspirations usually end up as victims of the terror they encouraged.
Speak up! Soro soke! Don’t be a party to injustice. Silence, at a time when action is required, is unjust.
“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.” Proverbs 31:8-9
