A young deer asked its mother, “Why do we run from the lion? Should we not be brave enough to challenge it? How can we be fugitives in our land? This can’t continue!
The older deer sighed. Her eyes told tales that her tongue could not utter
“You cannot understand my child. There’s more to it than you can see”
The young deer was quiet but determined to make a difference. Something had to change. He invited some of the other young animals and they set out for the lion’s den. They were determined to make an impact.
Three days later, the young deer returned home. The spark in its eyes was gone.
The older deer had a knowing look on its face. “Sorry, my child. Do you understand now? Do you see that we are also not cowards? It is just that we have seen what the lion is capable of. We have our stories, now you have yours.”
The young deer was distraught!
“Mother, my friends, gazelle and elephant, were injured. Also, we don’t know the whereabouts of antelope. This is not fair, mother! It is not fair!”
The older deer smiled. “You feel that all this has to count for something, right?” Her son nodded.
Well, this is the moment you decide.
You have always said that you did not inherit the weakness of the older generation. You made it clear that they messed with the wrong people. Oh, well. This is your chance to prove that you are different.
Will you cower in fear like we did? Or will you step back, learn from your battles and plan for the future?
The young deer sighed.
Dear son, this is your time. This is your opportunity. The decision is yours. Remember that the wall of Jericho did not fall on the first day. It collapsed on the seventh day. However, each walk around the walls was a step to victory.
Imagine if they stopped on the second day?
The young deer spoke, “But mother, when is our own “seventh day”?
“My son, I don’t know. I wish I knew. However, one thing I know is that victory comes when you don’t allow defeat to keep you grounded.
Some of your friends will go to other lands and get trained for the future, while some will remain here.
However, it is up to you to decide. Will you one day be like our generation? Silenced by the scars of suffering? Or will you keep walking even when the wall seems to still be standing? The choice is yours, son. The choice is yours.”
…
And with that, the young deer went to sleep.
He didn’t know how. He didn’t know when. But he was sure victory will come one day. 🇳🇬
“And your people will rebuild the ancient ruins; You will raise up and restore the age-old foundations [of buildings that have been laid waste]; You will be called Repairer of the Breach, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.”
Isaiah 58:12
“Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses].”
Hebrews 11:1
“These were the true heroes, commended for their faith, yet they lived in hope without receiving the fullness of what was promised them. But now God has invited us to live in something better than what they had—faith’s fullness! This is so that they could be brought to finished perfection alongside of us.”
Hebrews 11:39-40
